  • I have one other automatic soap and sanitizer dispenser and thought adding another one would be nice. The Guardian is a solid plastic one with a good dip tube that goes down to the bottom of the bottle. It’s a flexible silicone tube that’s wide enough to hold plenty of soap or sanitizer. It takes four AA batteries, which aren’t included. The capacity of the bottle is good and will hold 500 ml (16.9 ounces). I opened up the battery compartment and added four batteries, which I took out of their plastic wrapping. I then filled the bottle with my hand sanitizer of choice. The unit didn’t power on so I removed the batteries and put in new Duracells. Unfortunately, it still didn’t work. The GermGuardian was manufactured in China. It does have a one-year limited warranty.

  • Has a dent in the front. Nothing else seems to be damaged and it seems to work fine so far. Will update if that changes.

  • I was a bit skeptical about this device, but after reading all the other reviews I decided to give it a try. My bathroom in my house has no windows and always has a musty smell, I upgraded the exhaust fan and that helped a lot, but leaving it in all day makes no sense either. I installed this thing in seconds and let it's do it job, 3-8 hours went by it really didn't seem to make a difference, I was kinda bummed, the next morning I went to check and holy Batman 95% of the smell is gone! I was ecstatic! And since then it's has kept the smell away. So far noise goes, it does not bother me one but, it's no louder than a laptop operating.

  • I have 2 of these. We'll see how long they last. But what is with the terrible plastic smell when its brand new?? It took like a full week to go away. I have a different model in our master bed room and it NEVER smelled like that.

I’ve had this air purifier for two or three years and had never changed the filters, but I only use it when my son visits because he has asthma. Before his visit last weekend I decided to buy new filters and that’s when I learned that there is also a bulb to change. I have the original instruction manual that came with the air purifier. So I purchased everything from germguardianoutlet.com, and I used my instruction manual to remove the bulb that was in there and put in the new one. The only thing that I couldn’t accomplish was screwing the screw back in… It was like it was threadbare and it wouldn’t grab- it just rotated around and around completely loosely. So I left it off because the cover was staying put just fine . My son arrived and went to sleep and when he woke up he opened his bedroom door and said that his room smelled entirely of burning plastic, completely toxic. Once that door was open the whole house smelled. We unplugged the unit and opened it up and we saw what you see pictured here. It’s completely blackened! They do not offer returns so there is nothing I can do. From what I understand this bulb claims to remove bacteria from the air… But so does a few squirts of Lysol so that is what I will be doing from now on. I will never put a bulb in this unit again and furthermore, I’m kind of afraid of the air purifier itself now… Please be careful!

  • My toddler and I both have severe allergies and asthma. To the point that over the past month we have both been having major issues with the pollen and smog in the air, even with being home most of the time! I ordered this one after doing A LOT of research, and I decided this was the best for the money. With a true HEPA filter that you replace once a year (opposed to once a month) it would save money in the long run. I chose this one for the den in our house and over the coming weeks we will be getting smaller ones for the bed rooms. This review for right now is 24 hours in to having it on in the house, and later I will come back and add to it. Set up was easy straight out of the box, and I put it out of traffic areas in the house. I was worried with where I put it there would be trouble for good air circulation, but it is doing great! In fact with it on high I noticed a tag on the other side of the room (directly across) was moving on one of the toys yesterday as I was cleaning. Then I cooked fish last night (our den has an open doorway to the kitchen), and I couldnt even smell it cooking!! I decided to test it this morning, and sat on the couch painting my nails. Even using nail polish remover I couldnt smell it!!! (which astounds me b/c I hate doing my nails simple b/c of the toxic fumes!!) As far as noise, its not that bad. On high, with the tv and with kids running around it is a little white noise and thats it. I sleep with the bed room doors open, and having a tower computer on in the den annoyed me, however on medium I couldn't even hear it in the den! It also moves a lot of air b/c even when the ac isnt blowing air, it feels like it is b/c of this tower! I am super excited at the thought of having better air quality in the house so we dont have as many issues, and I know it will take probably a good month for me to be able to judge that (and trust me I keep up with our flair ups b/c my son sees a specialist so I can tell you if it will make a difference or not). I also liked the UV light, since we have kids over to play all the time it makes perfect sense to have it to. Also anyone that has lung issues, make sure to avoid any purifier that has the ion part (where you turn it on for a fresh smell) it actually causes lung problems (if you have underlying problems). Oh and check out the reviews on walmart . com for this purifier, it has hundreds of reviews and most are five star (which is one of the reasons I went with this model even though not everyone loved it on here). Check back in August and I will add an update =) ****************************UPDATE****************************** 12/2/2012 Hi ALL! Sorry took me so long to come back and update =) Fortunately if you see below I did give a heads up three weeks in we still loved it. This unit is holding up well, and really does a good job! Since buying it (I guess going on six months ago now --WOW THAT WENT FAST!!) it helped with our asthma and allergies. Within the first month I stopped waking up with a stuffy nose, and it was taking particles out of the air so I wasn't seeing as much dust. I still would love to have them in each room, but that is on the back burner. Make sure you have enough for the sq footage of your room. We have since moved to a larger place, that has more sq footage in the den, and also two open doorways leading to other rooms. As such, this unit is doing really well for how much air it has availability to; when I should honestly probably should have one more in here. It isn't too loud, and I love the uv light. Within the first month of us having it we were exposed to someone (a visitor) that wound up having pneumonia. With the fact we have a higher risk of catching lung illnesses, I was really nervous. I think a big contributor to not catching it is because we had this unit running on high with the uv light. I highly recommend this unit, and I hope it helps! =) ***********************************Update 6/26/13 We just about hit the year mark! Still working great and going strong! Make sure you wipe down (inside and out) once a month (as the book says). Still going strong, and working well! =) Buy this one, and you wont regret it! ***********************************Update 11/13/13 Unit is still working great! We added a second one earlier this year, and pleased with both! =) ***********************************Update 06/29/14 Both units are still going strong with no issues. Still helping with our asthma and allergies.

  • Before purchasing I was reluctant because of some of the negative reviews. For instance, one review that I read said it was “impossible to see if the room had any light”. Another stated “it was inaccurate when compared to other monitors”. I’ve found all of these to be untrue. I will explain why below: First of all, as soon as I plugged in the device and connected it to WiFi and the mobile app, it prompted me to update the device twice. These were not updates that would perform automatically so you MUST update the device manually by going to settings, and firmware update. After that my device was working great. As seen in the attached photos, you can see the backlight just fine in a very bright room with direct light above it from my lamp. When I compared the humidity and temperature to the Google Nest Thermostat that I use it was exactly the same readings on both devises. Which tells you the GermGuardian is very accurate. I was not compensated for this review, I’m just a “Smart-Home Nerd” and I wanted an AQI device that was more affordable than $200+ and that would connect to Google Home and perform accurate measurements. I use a couple of Levoit air purifiers but sometimes I want a 3rd party air reading to know if they are working. I hope this helps clear up some of the doubts some may have that I initially did myself. The product is well worth its price when compared to similar units and I am happy with my purchase. Note: ( I also wonder how many of the negative reviews are associated with germguardianoutlet.com who has their own Air Quality Monitor that I'm sure they'd rather that you buy)

  • I bought 2 of these, one for in each kid's room, and they work really well. The proof is in the photos. I had new filters ready to go and after 5 months, I changed them. You can see everything that the filter caught and stopped from being airborne in the rooms. On the left is the filter after 5 months and on the right is the new filter I'm installing.

  • My three year old loves his unit! He loves the stars in his room, and it’s a nice night light- not too bright. On it's highest setting, it can be loud, but on the lowest it’s a nice white noise that doesn’t bother any of us. We have several GermGuardian units in the house since the entire family has allergies from mild to severe and this has helped tremendously. I don’t know if only one unit in the bedroom would help, but with other units throughout the house, it’s been a world of difference. We’ve even noticed less dust in the house.

  • I bought this air purifier to replace a cheaply made, loud Holmes model that I bought from Walmart. To be fair, it did a decent job, but I wasn't impressed at all. So I ordered the Guardian because, I won't lie, I loved how it looked in the pictures and, more importantly, it had received universally great reviews. After using the Guardian for the past three days straight I can personally attest to the great reviews. This machine is quiet, works wonderfully, and is by far the most aesthetically pleasing air purifier I've ever seen. The only unfortunate thing I can say about it, and others have touched on this issue as well, is that there is a burning plastic smell that I noticed for the first several hours upon turning on the power. My room is medium sized, roughly 75-80 sq. feet (if I had to guess), and the smell was quite potent, especially for the first hour. I remember wondering if the thing would be kind enough to suck up its own smell, but the answer of course was no. Luckily, the smell soon faded and this purifier has been great ever since. I've read other complaints about the glowing blue light keeping people awake at night. I'm glad I'm stubborn and ignored these reviews, because those complaints almost kept me from buying the damn thing. I wouldn't say the light is exactly bright, more of a soft glow, but if you're sensitive to that sort of thing (as I very much am) you can simply turn off the U.V. while you sleep. It will continue to work amazingly without this feature running, although I do leave it on during the day while I'm at work. Does it actually do anything? I have no idea. Finally, I want to add that in NJ, where I live, this is currently prime allergy season, but when I wake up I feel completely neutral, as if the air outside weren't saturated with pollen (and God knows what else--it's NJ!). It's actually quite amazing. Pros: great for allergies, strong quiet suction, aesthetically pleasing beyond belief, will keep your space smelling nice, virtually no dust anywhere Cons: that damn smell for the first several hours Be back in a few months with an update!!

  • Very easy setup and helpful manual. Operational modes (i.e. Speeds, UV/ION and Timer) are simple to set and maintain. Immediately improved the air quality in my home office (days) and master bedroom (night). 2nd unit was purchased for downstairs living room.

  • This isnt the first Germ Guardian product I've got. This one is designed for a small room, perhaps a bedroom. It says its suitable for 151 square feet. Its stands about 19 inches tall, 12 inches wide by 6 inches deep. It could sit on the floor or up on an end table. It's a 3 in 1 hepa filter system that includes a charcoal pre filter, followed by the corrugated filter and then theres also an ionizer. The system has a 3 speed fan and the lowest setting is whisper quiet (great for the bedroom). Finally, theres an indicator to tell you when to replace the filters. Germ Guardian is a trusted brand and this smaller unit should serve well in a smaller room.

  • Germ Guardian Air Purifier with HEPA carbon filter (Model AC4625WDLX)) This brand, Guardian Technologies, is a trusted brand for us because we purchased an ultrasonic humidifier from them years ago and it’s still going strong. We haven’t owned an air purifier before this one, but I have one at work in my shared office space so am familiar with that one (I’m the one who changes the filters). This is a great air purifier that I am happy to have in our home, but it lacks a feature that the one at work has that I find myself missing. There’s no “auto” setting. The available settings are off, low, medium, and high. So, this unit is either on or off, and you must manually change the setting to low, medium, or high. Our slightly larger/heavier work purifier (a Winix, which when on sale is about $100), is left on all the time because it can automatically change settings based on air quality / sensor readings. Both purifiers are energy star certified and both have carbon and HEPA filters (but the work one isn’t the smaller round shape of this one). This unit has a slightly smaller profile and is the only one with UV-C light, but the work unit can handle more square footage. Both are equally loud when on the higher settings. So, think about the features you care the most about. There are two parts (and an optional third) that will need replacing throughout this unit’s lifetime: HEPA filters that come with a carbon filter (Model No. FLT4700), UV light bulbs (Model No. LB1000), and optional additional carbon filters (Model No. FLT47CB4) if you want to change them out more often than the approximate six months for the HEPA filter. The back panel of the purifier opens easily for access to the filter and UV bulb. The HEPA filter has two pull tabs that make sliding it out simple. The carbon filter is wrapped around the HEPA filter and is easily removed (there’s a Velcro strip that it attaches to). Once the HEPA filter is out you can easily access the UV Light. (See photos). The cord is a little over 6 ½ feet long (we added a cable sleeve over the cord to deter our cat that chews). As far as placement, it’s recommended that “For proper airflow, locate the unit at least 1 foot from any wall or furniture.” We wanted our purifier in the living room so ended up placing our unit in front of the stair rails to the basement (good airflow and the white of the purifier blends with the white of the rails). The hand hold on the back of this 22” tall unit makes it easy to move around as needed, and we’ll take advantage of that, when someone’s sick, to move the unit into a bedroom. Made in China.

  • I ordered four replacement bulbs for my GG1100B UV air filters and two arrived with the glass cracked near a soldered area where the glass meets metal. These happened to be the first two bulbs I opened and attempted to use as replacements. After tinkering with them in the filter and seeing they weren’t causing the same blue light ring in the front of the air filter, I went to remove them, noticed the bulbs were extremely hot and cracked near that soldered area. I tried the other bulbs to see if I had the same results and luckily I had success with them and they were not nearly as hot. Be wary of the bulbs you receive - with how hot the cracked bulbs had become after just a few seconds of testing, I am concerned they could be a serious fire hazard. (And they did produce light, but it was purplish on the otherwise blue ring, so there wouldn’t necessarily be a warning). Needless to say, I will be asking for replacement bulbs.
