   We’ve spent several hours, followed all of the install FAQs and still can’t get it to work. Had to hire a tech tomorrow to verify, but most likely will be returning. Was excited about the product, but shouldn’t be this hard.

   (Review of Guardian Technologies Smart Air Quality Monitor) I will update this review if the manufacturer releases a fix for the Aria Android app. But currently, the app crashes every time I try to open it (after getting through the initial setup process). This makes the smart features unusable to me, which is a shame because I chose this device over other AQI monitors for its smart features. The device itself is nice. The design of the hardware is aesthetically pleasing, and the screen looks slick and easy-to-read. If there’s an update to the Android app that actually solves the issue, then I’ll be happy with this device. Otherwise, it’s just OK and is definitely a disappointment.

   Before purchasing I was reluctant because of some of the negative reviews. For instance, one review that I read said it was “impossible to see if the room had any light”. Another stated “it was inaccurate when compared to other monitors”. I’ve found all of these to be untrue. I will explain why below: First of all, as soon as I plugged in the device and connected it to WiFi and the mobile app, it prompted me to update the device twice. These were not updates that would perform automatically so you MUST update the device manually by going to settings, and firmware update. After that my device was working great. As seen in the attached photos, you can see the backlight just fine in a very bright room with direct light above it from my lamp. When I compared the humidity and temperature to the Google Nest Thermostat that I use it was exactly the same readings on both devises. Which tells you the GermGuardian is very accurate. I was not compensated for this review, I’m just a “Smart-Home Nerd” and I wanted an AQI device that was more affordable than $200+ and that would connect to Google Home and perform accurate measurements. I use a couple of Levoit air purifiers but sometimes I want a 3rd party air reading to know if they are working. I hope this helps clear up some of the doubts some may have that I initially did myself. The product is well worth its price when compared to similar units and I am happy with my purchase. Note: ( I also wonder how many of the negative reviews are associated with germguardianoutlet.com who has their own Air Quality Monitor that I’m sure they’d rather that you buy)

   I cannot read the screen on this when the air quality screen goes yellow which it is all the time in my livingroom. Even in a partially dark room, it’s impossible to read.
   I’m also questioning the accuracy of the reading as it seems to fluctuate a lot for no apparent reason I can figure out. Not sure if this is something going on in my living room or if the monitor is working.
   I would like to return it but it’s past the return window.

   Guardian Technologies Air Quality Monitor We didn’t even know we needed it. We live 60 miles East of a large smoggy city and when the wind blows from there we see some of their gunk. We can smell it but didn’t really know how bad it was. We plugged this marvelous machine in and have been better informed since. It’s started out by reassuring us that the indoor air was pretty good. It tells us the PM2.5 and VOC. PM2.5 is bad stuff. It’s tiny and can cross from the lungs into the blood and from the blood into the brain. The other important measurement is VOC, volatile organic compounds. They can be anything from paint to air fresheners to pesticides. Like PM2.5, you want it low. The Aria device also lists the indoor temperature and humidity, the time and date. Air quality is great information and our advanced weather station can’t provide it. But they kept adding features. It will connect to the Internet to show the outdoor values so you’ll know if opening a window will help or hurt. It has a great free app. It also connects to Alexa or Google. I can just ask for the air quality without going to the device. We really like this device. Two days after we put it in, the contractors finished up some work in our crawl space. The glue they used stunk very badly. The air quality monitor picked it up quickly and our happy 60ish rating shot past 300. It samples continuously so you get a quick reading. We were able to open a couple of windows and keep an eye on it until we were safe. It’s well made and works better than we’d hoped. I can’t imagine being without it now that we’ve seen it work so well.

   So this was an easy set up. Just plug it in. Once I downloaded the Aria app, and set it up with my home wi-fi, it said it needed to be updated. I tapped on update on the app, but it wouldn’t update. It takes about 100 seconds to update, appears to be updating, but then it still says an update is needed. It also comes with minimal instructions outside of how to set up the WiFi and pair it. There’s a manual scan and an automatic scan to pair it. The only 2 items that are available to choose from are a tower fan and something else, on the auto scan but after several tries it did finally let me choose the AQI to pair on auto scan . If your display is green then air quality is good, if it changes to orange, it’s fair, and red is poor. Here’s where my biggest complaint is. First of all the orange and red display are difficult to see, unless you’re really close to the unit. Second is that it goes from green, good air quality to orange or red in a nano second. And it does so everytime I spray anything in the room. Lysol, perfume, deodorant, etc, will make it go from good (green) to red in a heartbeat. My dog and cats jump on my bed a lot so I spray Lysol or fabric freshener on my bed linens often and that should not cause my Voc’s to go from good to poor. Lysol is supposed to clean the air , so why the unit reads it as dangerous is strange. I like that it gives you the relative humidity in the room as well as temperature but I’m not sure if I trust what I’m reading. My bedroom is the coldest in the house because I’ve got a portable AC in addition to my central AC in my room because of menopause I like to keep my room colder. But it always shows the temperature in my room at 73 to 74 but my thermostat in the house is always at 72, but you can feel a big difference in temperature from my bedroom to the rest of the house. There is one button on the front of the unit that once pressed it switches it from indoor to outdoor. Again, no way to check the accuracy unless I check the local weather logistics for my area . So a lot of “uncertains” with this unit. Can I believe what I’m reading? Don’t know unless I get another unit for comparison. I tend to Lean more towards it being less than accurate.
