   This product is extremely fragile and it is why the slot it is placed in within the Germ Guardian is extremely specific. When you remove this and go to install it, make sure to use gloves so you don’t get oil on the glass of the bulb. Second, when you go to install it, do so with the cord pointing up, not down. Third, pull the cords closest to the end so you can get the shield for the bulb around the cords and secure the lamp safely and intentionally.

   We got it switched out in about 5 minutes and everything is working as it should! Great product that does exactly what it is supposed to do!

   It didn’t have a small safety cover (on the tip of the bulb) that’s necessary when you place it in the unit. I had to use the one from the old bulb. Not sure if it was the right thing to do. Also it would be helpful if it had an instruction how to change the bulb.

   Update to my review: I changed one start to five after I called their help number, and I found out that the bulb doesn’t come with that plastic safety cover and it doesn’t need one. Per their rep, the original probably comes with it to secure the bulb during shipping and handling.

   This product was and is Awesome. I love my germ guardian air filter. Well so much so, that the bulb went out 😃. Anyways, this was a super easy purchase, with just as easy of switching out the bulbs. Only need a Phillips screw driver and you can switch your bulb to make sure that your still killing those germs!

   I’ve had this air purifier for two or three years and had never changed the filters, but I only use it when my son visits because he has asthma. Before his visit last weekend I decided to buy new filters and that’s when I learned that there is also a bulb to change. I have the original instruction manual that came with the air purifier. So I purchased everything from germguardianoutlet.com, and I used my instruction manual to remove the bulb that was in there and put in the new one. The only thing that I couldn’t accomplish was screwing the screw back in… It was like it was threadbare and it wouldn’t grab- it just rotated around and around completely loosely. So I left it off because the cover was staying put just fine . My son arrived and went to sleep and when he woke up he opened his bedroom door and said that his room smelled entirely of burning plastic, completely toxic. Once that door was open the whole house smelled. We unplugged the unit and opened it up and we saw what you see pictured here. It’s completely blackened! They do not offer returns so there is nothing I can do. From what I understand this bulb claims to remove bacteria from the air… But so does a few squirts of Lysol so that is what I will be doing from now on. I will never put a bulb in this unit again and furthermore, I’m kind of afraid of the air purifier itself now… Please be careful!

   I had to shift the bulb around quite a bit to make it actually fit in the slot because of a part of the glass tip that extended about half a mm further than the end of the bulb that was originally in there. I was worried about it breaking, but I eventually got it to work.

   This bulb is slightly larger than the original that came with the unit. I had to force the metal bracket to fit, and there was a faint crunching sound from the bulb — which made me worry I’d damaged it. Thankfully, it still turned on. But for the price, I really shouldn’t have to deal with this kind of issue.
